Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalitha presented the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD to Dr.Kumar Venkatesan for his contribution towards paediatric surgery during the silver jubilee celebrations of The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University .

Karthik Hospital and Fevicryl organized a painting competition for students from L.K.G to 10th standard. Nearly 800 students from various schools in and around Madurai participated in the same. All participants were given a certificate and prizes were distributed to the winners.

A 48 hour old baby was brought with a complaint that it was constantly vomiting and choking. The baby was diagnosed with complicated birth defect in the wind pipe and block in the food pipe (TRACHEO OESOPHAGEAL FISTULA). It is a rare illness and a two hour long complicated surgery was successfully performed at Karthik Hospital by Dr.Kumar Venkatesan.

In what is termed as a medical miracle, a foetus-in-fetu (baby carrying a baby) was detected and removed from the abdomen of a two month old baby boy. The infant, Nelson had trouble passing stools and was crying incessantly. Investigations were done using scans and x-rays and it was revealed that the baby was carrying a tumour which had the features of a foetus. The tumour weighing one kg was successfully removed through surgery by Dr. Kumar Venkatesan.
